  • or email us: SS Library

Suggest resources that we should buy

  • Please let us know if there are any resources - books, equipment, journals, databases - that we could add to our collection to help you teach your classes.
  • We are very happy to buy new resources, and welcome your suggestions.

Textbooks

  • Liaise with Sonia Buckley x361 or sonia.buckley@cggs.act.edu.au to order any textbooks you will need for your classes
  • Please allow enough time for Sonia to locate a supplier, order and receive the books ready for your teaching
  • The Textbook room has hundreds of titles available in class sets
  • Please ensure that the correct textbook is issued to the right student
  • Please do not allow your students to leave their textbooks in your classrooms. If they are too heavy to carry home, encourage them to use the online versions and leave their textbooks in their locker at school.  This is really important when textbooks are returned at the end of the year, as lost textbooks are charged to student accounts.

Collections

  • Fiction collection (including Junior Fiction) - staff and students are encouraged to borrow from this collection and we welcome book recommendations.
  • Mother Tongue Collection  - this collection includes both popular fiction translated into a range of languages and stories written by authors in their first language.
  • Non-Fiction Collection - there is a range of print resources to assist you and your students with research needs. These can be placed on not for loan or short-term loan (e.g. 1 book for 2 days) during assignments to assist with equitable availability of resources. We encourage you to recommend print resources that you think will enhance learning at our school.
  • Databases - Britannica, Infobase and Gale are our main database providers. These databases are pitched to a Years 7-12 audience and are also useful for finding teaching resources. We also have other smaller subscriptions and all of our databases are accessible via our Databases page.
  • Staff Resources - we have a range of books for teachers to borrow on pedagogy and classroom practice etc.
  • Audiobooks - we can provide audio versions of novels for students on iPod shuffles.  Please let us know if this is a requirement for any of your students with special needs (check with Academic Engagement if there is a note in Synergetic about this)
  • Journals and Magazines - we subscribe to a range of titles. Please let us know if you'd like to be on the circulation list for any of these.
  • Audiovisual - we have a large collection of ClickView recordings for you to use in your teaching. These are all listed in the Library catalogue.  If you would like us to record anything from the TV please let us know in advance. All staff have access to ClickView Exchange. Please make contact with the Library if you would like training in the use of ClickView Exchange or uploading videos you have made to ClickVIew for easy access by students.
  • Equipment - as well as information resources, we have collections of cameras, tripods, iPod shuffles, charging cables, microphones, GoPro cameras and much more for loan.

Please ask Library staff for help or advice with anything you might need.

The Teacher Librarians

The Teacher Librarians welcome your classes for research lessons. Please let us know when you are planning to teach a new unit or a research assignment. We can advise and teach the Guided Inquiry Process - see the Research Skills & Referencing page for more information on these skills.

We can create a research / subject guide to support your teaching and assignments.

We will teach your class how to find and use information for their work. Ideally, the first or second lesson of an assignment is a good time to book into the Library for us to refresh researching, referencing and academic integrity.

Please call or email us using library.senior@cggs.act.edu.au to discuss your requirements:
